Biography

Jinyan Xiang is a Ph.D. candidate. She holds a B.A. in Philosophy from Renmin University of China and a M.S. in Marketing from Johns Hopkins University. She is passionate about how socioeconomic factors (e.g., social equality, socioeconomic status) affect consumer behaviors (e.g., investment in education, contribution to the sharing economy) and how marketing practices and consumption choices may provide solutions to socioeconomic  issues via behavioral nudge. She believes that the ultimate goal of behavioral research is to create a better society through our deeper understandings. Meanwhile, she is exploring the determinants and consequences of the status-seeking motive that is fundamental to human behaviors and consumer’s status-signaling strategy. Besides the two core research fields, she is interested in sustainable marketing practices and prosocial behaviors.
