BIOGRAPHY

Steve Matuszak is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Marketing Department and formerly taught with Pamplin’s Management Department as well.  He is involved with Pamplin’s Assessment of Learning and Business Communication Skills Education.  Steve serves as the faculty president of Beta Sigma Gamma, the business fraternity. He also serves as chair of Pamplin’s Welcoming Committee and on the Pamplin’s Assessment of Learning (AOL) Committee.  He is also part of the team designing and delivering Pamplin’s new (2024) Business Communication Executive Certificate Program. He also teaches executive Communication and Business Analytics for Francis Marion University’s Executive Certificate Program.  Steve is an elected member of TLOS’s Digital Assessment Tools Community of Practice, which is currently developing digital assessment tools to better help VT instructors understand their impact on (and thereby increase) student learning.  Steve won the 2024 Virginia Tech Teaching Award for Project-Based Learning and is currently developing cross-course and inter-disciplinary project-based learning at Virginia Tech. He provides leadership and teaching for VT and Pamplin’s Marketing Department’s partnership with the Virginia Economic Development Program (VEDP) and VITAL (Virginia International Trade Alliance). Through these partners, Steve provides his student teams as strategic Marketing research and support for VA-based companies looking to expand internationally.  He also provides student project-based Marketing support for numerous local companies. Steve is the former Executive Director of CCTC, a Chicago-based corporate training, consulting, event, and entertainment company with numerous Fortune 500 and international clients. Prior to that he worked in Public Relations, Sales, Training and Development, and as an international keynote speaker as well as the professional performing arts.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

Although not a Research Professor, Steve pursues research concerning business education, which includes areas such as Communication Apprehension and other such obstacles to effective communication skill development and performance along with corporate training and development issues.
