The Virginia Tech Student Marketing Advisory Board (SMAB) is a group of passionate, driven marketing students who are dedicated to enhancing the marketing department. SMAB serves as ambassadors demonstrating leadership in mentoring current and prospective students, attending career fairs, and collaborating with the Virginia Tech Marketing Advisory Board. Their activities have a significant impact on the marketing department, and we are excited for their continued dedication and support.

Members of SMAB recently attended the Major and Minors fair and the October open house, where they connected with current and prospective students. Within their ambassadorial roles, they provide an authentic student perspective on the marketing department through sharing their own experiences, discussing coursework, student organizations, and what it takes to be a marketing student at Virginia Tech.

President Lindsay Lawrence emphasizes the importance of hearing from passionate students. This insight provided an invaluable perspective, allowing prospective students to gain a holistic understanding of what it means to be part of this community. Lily Bevin, Vice President, reflected on her time as an undecided business student and what drove her to pursue her degree in marketing.  Bevin uses her experience to help guide and inspire students who may be unsure of what path to take. This connection with students has encouraged them to apply to the marketing department and stay engaged with members throughout their academic journey.

Beyond supporting students, SMAB also collaborates closely with the Marketing Advisory Board and alumni to gain insight into careers in marketing and develop professionally. This mentorship and connection allow students to network, prepare for interviews, and be ready for the next step in their marketing degree post-graduation. Having these connections allows these groups to provide support and help all members become successful in their degrees. Alumni who have attended the SMAB event and hosted a speed networking session play a crucial role in sharing their insights with members. They learn about their diverse career journeys and offer guidance for both personal and professional paths, making students feel supported and connected through the strong alumni network.

For students passionate about marketing and eager to be part of the marketing department, we invite you to join SMAB. It's an excellent opportunity to gain both professional and academic experience.
