Have you ever had a dream or goal that seems out of reach? Well, Professor of Practice Mark Michalisin from Marketing in the Pamplin College of Business may just have some words of wisdom. In his new book entitled “In The Arena: From the Boardroom to the Classroom”, we hear first hand experience of Michalisin’s successes and failures, but also how he overcomes them with a short list of quotes taped to his wall. Even more unique, he didn’t just write this book, his students wrote an entire chapter based off of the lessons he’s taught them. When we sat down with Professor Michalisin he said the number one thing he’d say to students and anyone listening would be to “never, ever give up.”

Making her debut this past weekend at the Marketing Advisory Board's bi-annual board meeting, Ivy Bryant was welcomed as the 17th member of the organization. Bryant graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor’s in Marketing and then again from Howard University, receiving her MBA. Since then, Bryant has spent the last four and a half years living in Washington, DC working as the Vice President for Enterprise Operations at Cigna, one of the nation's largest insurance companies.

A few weeks ago our PRISM Executive Team had the opportunity to travel to Los Angeles, California to engage in Digital Summit 2022. Digital Summit focuses on all things digital marketing and allows attendees to explore topics in the Metaverse, influence of data analytics over the marketplace, and top trends to boost creativity. Anna Sherrod who serves as the current Chief Marketing Officer said this, “I am always so thankful for the real-world opportunities PRISM allows me to receive while still a student at Virginia Tech!” Along with engaging with the conference, PRISM Exec and faculty advisor Donna Wertalik had the chance to spend time with alumni who currently reside at some of the largest companies in the world, including HBO Max and Disney.

Donna Wertalik, professor of practice in the Marketing Department and the director of marketing strategy and analytics for the Pamplin College of Business, was named the Advisor of the Year during the Student Organization Leadership awards. The Advisor of the Year award was created to recognize the advisor of a student organization who has made outstanding contributions through support, energy, and resources.

Buckle your seatbelts because VT Marketing alum, Marvin Aylor, is about to take you for a wild ride! Fueled by his childhood love for cars, Marvin came to Virginia Tech as a first generation college student determined to pursue a career in the sports marketing industry. After his graduation in 2010, he continued working towards his dream by earning a spot in NASCAR’s Diversity Internship Program. From here, Marvin transitioned to a full time job with NASCAR and is now their Director of Partnership Marketing. Still a Hokie at heart, Marvin spends much of his free time mentoring VT students through his position on the VT Marketing Advisory Board. He also enjoys spending time with his friends and family, going out to bars and restaurants, watching sports, and DJing on occasion.

Johar at the Columbia Business School, recently partnered with FeedMyCity, a community kitchen initiative based in India.
